Recovering from home after surgery can limit daily activities. Whether recovering from major surgery, childbirth, or plastic surgery, I can assist you or your loved one to a healthy and complete recovery.
Arthritis, physical disabilities, and age-related conditions are some of the few circumstances that prevent patients from caring for themselves. I can assist with daily tasks such as mobility, eating, exercising, and grooming. The difference between an unlicensed caregiver and myself is that I have an understanding of the frequent complexities that come along with these conditions, thus keeping you safe and providing education as well.
The care of those with dementia and Alzheimer's can be very demanding. My goal is to help these individuals and their loved ones live happy and fulfilling lives.
Individualized Care
I understand everyone has different and unique needs. Whatever these are, we can develop a plan that works for you.
As a Registered Nurse for nearly 15 years I have gained experience in environments including the emergency room, acute care, public health, and education. I have always been passionate about educating and advocating for patients and their family members.
Aging and health care are very difficult for most to manage. After experiencing it first-hand with two grandparents I began to do the same for others in the community.
It started when a hospice patient's daughter needed time to get to the grocery store and was really missing her church service. She couldn't just ask a friend to care for her ailing mother. She needed a professional she could trust would manage her mother's care without difficulty and with compassion.
Next, a WW II veteran, who desired to continue living at home, needed a professional to assist him in his garage with his projects because his Parkinson's was becoming difficult to manage. His family needed someone who understood his mobility issues, limitations, medications, and long list of diagnoses. He needed someone he could talk to and build stuff with.
After this I knew I found my niche. Its not only the joy I see in my patients when I visit, but the relief in their family member's face when they have a professional to provide whatever support they need.

"From our first interview with April we knew that she would be a perfect fit with our family at a time when we needed support and compassion. She helped to give us all a break as the main caregivers, but not only with the daily living activities, but also as a friend to talk to."
"My family and I have been fortunate to have April Hatch help take care of our elderly mother. There are many companies, agencies and individuals offering geriatric care, but finding a competent private-duty Registered Nurse has been an enormous benefit to someone recovering from a debilitating stroke. Since April began working with our mother, her progress has advanced at a much higher pace than when she was a resident at a rehabilitation facility. April understands the variety of therapies a stroke victim needs to recover.
Her education has also given her the knowledge required to understand the interactions of the assortment of medications prescribed to our mother. and, more importantly, to know when a combination of drugs has been incorrectly prescribed.
In addition to her State-Certified credentials, April demonstrated an ability to immediately connect with our mother when her mind was confused and, at times, combative. She was able to quickly establish a rapport that seemed to be out of reach to our mother's caregivers.
If you are considering working with April, doing so would be one of the best decisions you've made this year."
“The fact that April is a nurse is a great asset to (patient) as well as his caregiving team. (Patient) has a progressive disease as well as some other complexities with his health. This requires some special attention that an inexperienced caregiver would not be able to handle.
April has developed a great relationship with (patient), but, more importantly, she knows the signs to look for in case an issue would arise with his health. For example, she recently caught a low heart rate that led to him getting a pacemaker. The patient's family and I feel that we can lean on April with medical questions and know she will point us in the right direction. (The patient) is in very capable hands when she is with him."
“Having April as a nurse for my dad has been such a blessing. She is like an extension of our family.
The main reason for hiring her was to ensure my father continued his PT exercises and to help him get out of his apartment to mingle with other residents since his wife recently passed away.
April has done that plus much more. She observes what needs to be done around his apartment and does it, she has attended bingo with him, and encourages him with his exercises.
His spirits are much better since April has been part of bi-weekly routine and we couldn't be more grateful for her service and kind heart."
"Without April's help, I could not have had as successful recovery as I did. She showed up every day to help, and I looked forward to visit. Her knowledge and support were incredible. It was bittersweet to say goodbye after our last session."
